The current Ross community describes itself as 'wonderfully wacky'. They are a diverse and friendly bunch with a population of about 300. It's a great place to stop to meet the locals and see some wonderful history of the area. There are also some of NZ's best trout fishing nearby and at a certain low tides, you can collect mussels on the beach. The Information Centre in Ross offers a gerat display of the local history as well as the opportunity to try your hand at gold panning and get your own Roddy nugget.
