Nugget Point and Unique Wildlife

Southland

  • Beach
  • Day-tour
  • Lookout point

Nugget Point is great for wildlife viewing (take binoculars on your walk if you have them) including seals, sea lions and penguins. The walk to the lighthouse has stunning views of the roaring ocean, rugged surrounding landscape, and vast skies. The historic lighthouse was built in 1869 and is still working today, although it is now automated. Roaring Bay on the way to Nugget Point is a great place to spot Yellow Eyed Penguins at dusk and dawn.
